HANGRY AND ANGRY Summer Collection and Designer Gashicon’s Surprise Challenge

Are the days of Hello Kitty’s rule over feline fandoms at an end? “Kitty-chan” certainly has some fierce competition in designer Gashicon’s creations, HANGRY AND ANGRY. These cats are sharpening their claws on every scratching post, from clothes to music to manga, and they’ve got some friends along for the ride.

On May 14, we saw the latest HANGRY AND ANGRY line strut the catwalk at the Harajuku h.Naoto+ store. Well, not so much strut as prance, skip, and groove. Kicking off with the kind of music you might hear accompanying a dancing dragon at a Chinese New Year celebration, the models embodied the vibe in their actions while bringing the clothes to life. When the music
turned funky, so did they, one blue-haired feline switching from mysterious to sassy with a little breakdance routine. The moment was shattered, however, when she found a kindred cat-eared
spirit in the crowd and proceeded to clap with joy.

The latest line swings through various trends with punk and Lolita at the heart in true H&A style.

Stuffed animals and colorful puff hair complemented the outfits with many a long bunny-eared hood.

As usual, the outfits were immaculate in detail, from fancy hair to lace and frills, to stripes and splashes, to cross-studded socks and feathered heels.

This time, a new trend of sweet-n-sexy negligee-style dresses hit the floor. Pink frills, and laced up for good measure.

However, this pink punk princess deal really stood out, as it was contrasted by the simplicity of a skinny black dress.

The surprise came when the curtain was pulled aside to reveal Sixh. guitarist Nari and his plush incarnation, friend of HANGRY AND ANGRY, NARIry. The guest star joined the procession with plushie held high and a blinding grin for the crowd. Decked out in red and black checks, paint splashes, and animal print, he brought a devilish air to the show.

Gashicon herself appeared with a leopardized HANGRY plushie in her arms to share the exciting news of a new HANGRY ND ANGRY BATTLES store in Ikebukuro. She showed off her fabulous paint splattered top and long furry gloved headdress. Check out those paws!

A rock, paper, scissors showdown following the show gave loyal fans a chance to win the coveted black or pink HANGRY AND ANGRY dolls. With Gashicon’s promise that these would be the very last of their kind, the competition was hot. Only those who beat Gashicon or Nari would receive the prizes. Screams of “I won! I won!” resounded after every round, and some were so lucky as to collect all four types in a group effort.

Who wants the black and pink ANGRY?

Either elated by their wins or determined to get something out of the evening despite their losses, the fans headed downstairs to pre-order their favorite items from the show.
