Hyper Japan: Fashion Snap

One of the highlights of Hyper Japan is undoubtedly the fashion show, and while it was an amazing show of British girls and guys doing Japanese style, off the catwalk there were some incredibly stylish attendees simply wandering around. In addition to the number of branded items being worn, there were some stunning examples of handmade items across a range of lolita styles, too. We asked the girls to tell us what they were wearing and a little about their lolita fashion interest and inspirations.

Reika

 

69: What’s your style?
Reika: Gothic lolita kimono (the wa-lolita style).

69: Tell us about your outfit.
Reika: The kimono is a proper kimono from Ebay which I modified into a lolita style.

69: What are your fashion inspirations?
Reika: Gothic lolita and classic lolita, such as Victorian Maiden.

Anna: Punk lolita: punk made cutesy with bows and lace.

Tania: Classic lolita.

69: Tell us about your outfit.
Tania: Alice and the Pirates Angel print dress – a more classic line from BTSSB. The whole outfit is Alice and the Pirates.

69: What are your fashion inspirations?
Tania: Kera – there are certain guidelines within the lolita community but I like to mix things up with other styles.

69: What are your favorite brands?
Tania: BTSSB, Innocent World and Moi Meme Moitie – I am getting into gothic and I like his (Mana’s) Silent Moon design.

Annso and Vief: Sweet lolita

Annso and Vief: Today we are twinning Dream Macaron by Angelic Pretty with accessories from Japan Expo in Paris, London and Tokyo.

Vief: My black blouse is from Innocent World

Vief:Various shop girls

Masami: I got into lolita 10 years ago and am inspired by gothic/classic victorian style.

Wing: Otome style for casual wear. I still wear lolita but the shirts are a bit more poofy than otome.

Cordelia: Moi Meme Moitie dress bought online. I have always been into goth styles and high fashion and I discovered Moi Meme Moitie through Mana’s band, Moi Dix Mois.

69: What’s your style?
Lucy and Ada: Classic lolita – we got into lolita through Japanese culture and the historical side.

69: Tell us about your outfit.
Lucy and Ada: We are twinning the same dress in different prints from Beth at Victorian Maiden.
Lucy: My ring is from a brand called ‘Me & Zina’
Ada: My hat is from Topshop which I then modified to add the flowers.

69: What are your fashion inspirations?
Lucy: Kera.
Ada: Styling in Kera.

69: What are your favorite brands?
Lucy and Ada: Angelic Pretty

 

Mia


69: Tell us about your outfit.
Mia: Alice and the Pirates dress and bag with a cat headdress bought in Hong Kong.

69: What are your fashion inspirations?
Mia: Friends – I attend tea parties with friends who got into lolita and they inspire me. The key is to find friends in the same fashion.

69: What are your favorite brands?
Mia:  Alice and the Pirates – they also have clothes for men although girls can wear these too.


 


Sarah began her journey into the world of Japanese music courtesy of L'Arc-en-Ciel back in the year 2000. Since then, she has combined a love of music and music journalism into writing for European Japanese music magazines and assisting with Japanese interest events in the UK. After graduating in Law from the University of Nottingham, she put 'the law-thing' on the backburner to dive into the live scene in Tokyo for 3 years. Sarah returned to the UK in September 2010 to do that 'law-thing' and now works for a Japanese bank in London.
