vrock-fashion-thumbWhere would visual kei be without the fashion? And where would V-Rock Fest 2009 be without its fashion show? That’s what we asked ourselves, so along with our coverage of the performances during that weekend, we wanted to fill you in on what’s happening in the visual kei fashion world before the end of 2009, according to the Saturday night fashion show.

Laforet × KERA V-ROCK Collection

Aside from your run-of-the-mill Lolita and Decora garb taking to the stage, one particular trend resurfaced time and time again on the catwalk: Leopard print! Across the board, brands like monomania, ALGONQUINS, MALKOMALKA and WORLD WIDE LOVE were sporting that distinctive fur pattern. On guys and girls; in jackets, hats, boots, skirts; in black and white, and black and gold. There’s no doubt about it: Leopard print is THE hot thing in VK this year! And why not, when PENICILLIN vocalist HAKUEI worked the fur in his very own costume earlier that day?

A second theme seemed to be running throughout the weekend: Tartan! Pink and black tartan! Well, surely anyone who’s seen even a picture of some V-Rock Fest merch will have picked up on the not-so-subtle theme plastered over everything. Particularly in tights, and that’s what we saw on ALGONQUINS, too!
