Indies

Introducing ReivieЯ: ReivieЯ held their third oneman live in February 2011 and we were in the house!

Resurrected from a previous incarnation in 2007, ReivieЯ know their way around the VK Indie scene. Calling them “regulars” at Takadanobaba AREA would be an understatement, as they have over fifty concerts under their belt at that venue alone. Their August 14, 2007 revival live, however, was held in Saitama at Urawa Narciss, another regular haunt of theirs. Their first single, OUT OF VOID, was released on the same date and available at their gigs. Then, in June 2008, they appeared in the omnibus JUDGEMENT #003 with the song, “shinshoku” before releasing their own maxi single, Declare, later in August.

Hitting the road on October 14, 2008, they played their first gig outside of the Tokyo/Saitama region at Sendai Hook, eventually making it to Osaka and Nagoya in December of the same year. The band can also boast a handful of event lives presented by them at Takadanobaba AREA, the first held there in July of 2008.

In January 2009, they released another single, Word, which was distributed once more in live houses. ReivieЯ collaborated with VanessA in June for the single, Distracted Womb, and then the five-track maxi-single Agreement to us was released in visual kei speciality stores in December 2009, along with their first oneman at Shibuya O-Crest entitled, The Fist.

In March 2010, ReivieЯ released the single, Dope. The rest of the year was a productive one as the band continued their activity, holding their second oneman live, All Hesitation is Gone, at Ikebukuro BLACK HOLE on September 4, 2010. The band then forged on with their most recent single, Contrastive Pictures E.P, released on December 30 2010.

On February 5, 2011, ReivieЯ finally tackled Takadanobaba AREA by themselves, holding their third oneman, Unbreakable. They’ve been keeping busy with event lives throughout the Tokyo area well throughout 2011.

An interesting piece of trivia is that all the titles of their events and oneman lives have consistently been written in English.

Style

ReivieЯ’s musical style borrows heavily from DIR EN GREY, heavy yet rhythmically structured and the result of the group effort in composition. Despite dipping into the usual repertoire of screams, growls, shrieks, and chuckles that VK giants are known for, ReivieЯ succeeds where many young bands have failed by making that recognizable sound their very own. They also feature that Nagoya-kei croon mostly heard in Lynch. and DEATHGAZE. Drums and bass are important in holding together ReivieЯ’s music style, with guitars keeping up a constant stream of riffs and the occasional plucked background. If you like it loud, hard, and nasty with a bit of melody on the side, ReivieЯ will be your slice of cake for sure.
