A(Ace) evilalive Exclusive Interview: Rookie Fiddler (日本語あり)

Following their very first one-man at Ikebukuro Cyber, ROKKYUU had a few questions for A(Ace). Rookie Fiddler introduced us to his violins and educated us on the finer points of A(Ace)’s music and fashion!

69: How did you like your first oneman?
(初ワンマンライブはどうでしたか？)
Rookie: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAwesome!!

69: What song did you feel made the best impression?　Which did you enjoy the most?
(一番印象残っている曲はどの曲でしたか？自分とって一番楽しい曲はなんでしたか？)

69:What songs would you have liked to have played if you had the time?
(時間がもうちょっとあったとしたら、やりたかった曲はありますか？)
Rookie: It was the set list we all decided on together, I think it was perfect. If I had to choose something, though, I’d say I wanted to play the piano for another two hours.
(メンバー全員で考えた曲順だったので、完璧だったと思う。
あえて言うなら、ピアノをあと２時間くらい弾きたかった（笑）)

69: What memory sticks with you even now?
(あの日の一番印象深い思い出は何ですか？)
Rookie: The last song of the main set, “Ouvertura.” When we sang in chorus with the Heartys. I was happy because it was the kind of scene you can only get at a oneman.
(本編最後の曲Ouvertura。ハーティーたちと合唱したこと！ワンマンだからこその光景で嬉しかった。)

69: Do you have any regrets? Or are you completely satisfied?
(ライブ終えて何かやり残してしまったものはありますか？それとも、全くないですか？)
Rookie: I guess I do, but I can do it at the next one-man so it’s ok!

69: What are the lyrics in the repeating section of “Ouvertura” and what do they mean?
(“Ouvertura”の中で繰り返し歌われている歌詞について教えてくれますか？その歌詞はどういう意味でしょうか？)
Rookie: If you say it in English, it’s “You must fly away.”
(英語で言えば“You must fly away”.)

69: Please tell us about ‘Ace Day’ (Ace no hi.)
(エースの日というのはなんですか？)
Rookie: There’s the meaning that A is No. 1 so we chose to make the day where the most 1s line up A day.
(AはNo.１っていう意味もあるから、１が一番たくさん並ぶ日をAの日にしようと決めた。大抵の日本人は記念日が好きだ。海外はどうかな？)

69: Should the crowd expect any surprises at the free live on 11/11
(11/11、エースの日のライブについて期待すべきことはありますか？)
Rookie: We chose the title THANKS GIVING DAY2011 for the one-man title! It’s conveniently close to thanksgiving so I think it will be a live filled with our daily appreciation for our Heartys.

ちょうど感謝祭も近いから、Heartyたちへ日ごろの感謝を込めたライブになると思う！)

69: Rookie: Using violin, you emulated the sounds of lots of different instruments on the White Album. Could you name a few?
(ホワイトアルバムの中でバイオリンを使い色々な楽器の音の真似をしましたね。例えば、真似をした楽器は何でしょうか？)
Rookie: Rather than saying I emulated other instruments, I stressed the articulation. Violin is fretless, so the freedom of the musical intervals is effective in making it sound like the human voice. It has a very wide range of expression. In order to close in on the atmosphere of the countries we chose as themes, I made use of articulation you wouldn’t usually hear in classical music. For example, the rolls and triplets that sound like Irish fiddle in “Grafton Calling.” Also, in “GODDESS,” there’s a musical scale characteristic of Indian music. By playing that scale, I was able to produce an Arabian feel.
(何かの楽器をまねたと言うよりは、アーティキュレーションを重視した。
ヴァイオリンはフレットレスで、人の声に近いと言われるように音程の自由がきいて、表現の幅が広い。
テーマとなる国のもつ雰囲気に近づけるように、普段クラシックでは使わないいろいろなアーティキュレーションを駆使した。
たとえばGrafton Callingでのアイリッシュフィドルにみられる「ロール」や「トリプレット」といった奏法など。
またGODDESSなどはインド独特の音階（scale)があり、その音階で弾くことでアラビアらしさを出すことが出来た。）

69: Rookie, could you tell us a little about your two violins? Brand/model etc. What are they key points of each?
(Rookieさん、ライブで使用した2つのバイオリンのことを教えてくれませんか？ブランド、モデル等、両方のキーポイントとか？)
Rookie: My two violins have names. “Adam” is a Bohemian violin over a hundred years old that I use mainly for ballads. “Eve” is an electric violin that was made just for me and I use it for the heavier songs.
(２つのバイオリンには名前がある。
“Adam”は１００年以上前のボヘミアンバイオリンで主にバラードに使う。
“Eve”は僕だけのために作られたエレキバイオリンで激しい曲の時に使う。)

69: Were there any difficult points in making and performing the world music of the White Album?
(ホワイトアルバムのワールド音楽の作曲や演奏で難しいところはありましたか？)
Rookie: I’ve been intimate with world music ever since I gained awareness. A lot of it came to me naturally. However, I fretted a bit when incorporating the rock band sound.
(ワールド音楽は物心ついたときから親しんできたので、自然と出てくるものが多かった。
ただ、ロックバンドサウンドとの融合させる場面で少し悩んだ。)

69: Is there any other ethnic music you would like to try your hand at?
(ほかのワールド音楽でやってみたいと思うものはありますか？)
Rookie: Of course: Latin, gypsy, bossanova, African, tango… The world is fast and overflowing with wonderful music. Amid the foundation of a rock band based on classical music, I think I’ll be embarking on all sorts of musical adventures from now on.
(もちろん、ラテン、ジプシー、ボサノバ、アフリカン、タンゴ。。。
世界は広く、様々な素晴らしい音楽があふれている。
クラシックを基本にしたロックというベーシックがある中で、今後も色んな音楽的な冒険をしていくと思う。)

69: Was that the strangest thing you’ve ever put in your mouth? Can any of the other members beat that?
(今まで口に入れたものの中で、一番変なものだったでしょうか？他のメンバーはそれに勝るものを口にしていたりしていますか？)
Rookie: When I was a child, I once drank bubble blowing solution. (laugh)
(僕は子供のころシャボンの原液をのんだことがある（笑）)

Concerning A(Ace).
A(エース) について。

69: Did you have any personal input in the design of your costumes?　What are your favorite points of each costume?
(衣装のデザインには個人的な好みはどれ位入っていますか？それぞれの衣装の好きなポイントはなんですか？)
Rookie: Showing your thighs is a tradition called “Absolute Territory” in VK. When told that one of the members should absolutely show their thighs, I undertook the task. There’s a lot of exposure in this outfit and it’s a little feminine but I don’t feel embarrassment.
(太ももを露出することは「絶対領域Absolute Territory」と呼ばれ、V系の伝統だ。メンバーに一人は太ももを出した方が良いと言われ僕が引き受けた。今の衣装は露出が多く、すこしフェミニンすぎるけど、僕は恥ずかしさは感じない。)

69: Have any of you been sailing, or otherwise been on a boat before? How was it?
(セーリングしたり、船に乗ったことはありますか？乗った感想を教えて下さい。)
Rookie: When I was a boy, I really loved the sea and spent most of my Summer holidays atop a boat.
(僕は少年時代は海がとても好きで、夏休みの大半を船の上で過ごした。)

69: What would be your buried treasure?
(Rookieさんの宝物はなんですか？)
Rookie: Letters and presents from Heartys! They’re more important to me than my violins.
(ハーティーからの手紙とプレゼント！ヴァイオリンより大切にしている。)

69: Having sold out of your two concept albums and succeeded at your first one-man, what’s your next port of call?
(コンセプトアルバムが完売し、ワンマンも成功されましたね。Aの次の目標はなんでしょうか？)
Rookie: Only the wind knows our next course!
