Over the Edge 2011/2012

Live Report

Countdown

The curtains opened, revealing a televised clock, counting towards the stroke of midnight. The crowd only had a moment to appreciate the count-down device before Tatsurou stole its thunder, powering onto the stage followed by seek and YUKIYA. The latter began teasing the giant octopus, laughing as he said “Faster! Oh, right, that’s as fast as you can move [in those gigantic shoes].”

“Lots of people are showing up, today,” Tatsurou told the crowd as other performers began to file out onstage.

“Mix really stand out, though!” YUKIYA complimented, obviously taken with the fantastical costumes.

Among the earlier performers of the evening and some yet to come, Sophia’s bassist Kuro joined the gang onstage. However, some bands slated for the show, such as girugamesh, were conspicuously absent. As the clocked ticked down, the bands mingled–with none of the chaos of past years though YUKKE perched behind the drum kit–and then before anyone knew what was happening, the countdown began and all the voices of Shibuko joined together. “Five-four-three-two-one! Akemashite Omedetou!” (Congratulations for opening the new year/Happy New Year.)

Streamers burst and cheers resounded, Kuro was handed the mic for a solo salutation, and YUKKE pounded the kick-bass. Then, just like that, the countdown was over and 2012 began.

“Over the Edge is still going on, so have fun!” cried Tatsurou. “YUKKE, people still have to use that drum kit, so don’t break it ok,” he added in retrospect.

The mass of bandmen filed offstage, heidi.’s Yoshihiko and DaizyStripper’s Yugiri the last to leave after nearly tripping over guitar equipment while trying to maneuver the stage and crowd with arms about each others’ shoulders.
