YUKI Session

Moody opening music broke out in hot guitar and drumming, the session members entering in darkness, cool and smooth, except for the mystery lead guitarist who tripped over a speaker and fell on his backside. Lights arose as vocalist YUKI sang out the opening and the unfortunate guitarist, revealed as DOG in the PWO’s Jun Jun, pitched in along with DaizyStripper’s Mayu. On bass, heidi.’s Kohsuke complemented former An Café member and active support drummer, Teruki. The set consisted entirely of L’arc~En~Ciel numbers beginning with “GOLD.” The five worked well together, using the opening number to get to know each other onstage, Kohsuke jumping up on the drum platform with a huge grin for Teruki while YUKI showed his inner, hardcore spirit, banging double time in contrast with Jun Jun’s patient head-swings while Mayu rocked out a solo.

“We’re today’s second session band,” YUKI reminded the crowd before dynamically introducing each member. “Hey, do you all know Saint Seiya?” he then hinted. “I wanna have more fun, so let’s go!” Beginning with a heavy riff, “SHAMROCK” kept the members in motion while the guitarists churned out heavy riffs and odd musical lines and Kohsuke went hard on the bass under YUKI’s rap until the vocalist lightened his tone, the bass rhythm complementing it well.

“Hey, Shibuko! Are you ready for the last one!?” cried YUKI. However, it wasn’t until he reiterated the question that the fans picked up on his hint and screamed. “READY STEADY GO” sat beautifully in YUKI’s voice, the crowd’s voices filling in the lines he left open for them or else cheering as they jumped to the instrumentals. The vocalist travelled the stage, pausing by each member and Kohsuke waved his hands in a signal for more to which the crowd were happy to comply. With the final jam right on cue, YUKI let out a satisfied whoop of completion and the crowd cheered like mad.
