Stylish Wave Generation: May 2012

Live Report

“Break down the generation gap!” All of the bands gathered at Akasaka BLITZ on May 13 for Stylish Wave Generation had that one goal in mind. “It’s just my own preferences,” said event producer, visual kei’s grandpa Hoshiko. “I want to make a fun event that exceeds the barrier of generations because there are many parents and children in the visual kei scene. So I designed a live they can come and enjoy together. Unfortunately, my own daughter isn’t here today. She went to see L’arc,” he admitted.

Hoshiko and emcee DJ Asai were the first to greet the crowd for the evening and the DJ mentioned a certain international aspect to the event, prompting Hoshiko to reflect on his discovery of Eurovisual band, DNR. “It’s been about a year since I found them accidentally on YouTube. It seems they’ve been very inspired by X JAPAN and hide. Japanese bangya (female visual kei fans), please teach the Itialian bangya about things like gyakudai (where fans jump on top of each other on accents in the music),” he requested, promoting the breaking down of borders as well as generations. “Teach them well.”

Looks like the generation gap hasn’t been breaking down very effectively, if you’re calling Mr. Seiishi Hoshiko “grandpa”. When I looked that one up, I found that DNR’s blog prefers to refer to him as:

    “Mr.Seiichi Hoshiko,
the also called “father of Visual-kei”,
editor in chief of the ONGAKU SENKASYA (magazines:SHOXX.etc),
now president of STAR CHILD (Zy. etc)”
