What would you give to save thousands of lives, homes and families suffering from disaster?

YOSHIKI, present in Japan for the Tohoku-Kanto Great Earthquake following the massive Asia Girls Explosion project, has come up with an answer to GACKT’s SHOW YOUR HEART charity. The gesture is certainly unexpected and nothing if not grand.

The international rock star/renowned music producer will auction off his signature Kawai “Crystal Piano,” inscribed with his own name. Following the musician around the world, the piano has been featured in many heart-wrenching performances and could be worth millions in sentimental value–though let’s not understate the fine craftsmanship.

The following photo was taken during Asia Girls Explosion, YOSHIKI lying atop the grand instrument for perhaps the last time:

All proceeds will be donated to the charity to aid victims of the combined earthquake/tsunami/nuclear disaster.

Of course, YOSHIKI has even more to offer in the form of his California-based non-profit organization, Yoshiki Foundation America. The organization is founded on the healing nature of music and offers a different kind of relief than money. All funds collected by this foundation as of March 11 have been diverted to aid in the recovery efforts.

YOSHIKI, tweeting throughout the days following the disaster, was as affected as anyone in Tokyo, desperate to get in touch with relatives and friends and remained in his home country as long as he could before work called him away. YOSHIKI created the foundation out of compassion for previous disasters, but this particular instance has prompted the musician to personally sacrifice his piano. We at ROKKYUU hope that the piano’s worth skyrockets in the auction, as well-off fans and well-meaning millionares vie for the grand prize.
