Aube Second Single: Waga, Houmatsumugen no Hana ni Nari
Waga, Houmatsumugen no Hana ni Nari… is the second single from Aube, released September 28. The single has three versions, all containing the title track and “River of Destiny~Aoki Ginga,” but offers three options for the third song. Type one has “Plastic Inspire,” type two has “Curtain Call,” and type three contains the music video of “Hyakaryoran.”
Title song “Waga, Houmatsumugen no Hana ni Nari…” is fast-paced, with a lot of different elements coming together to create a poppy, active number. “River of Destiny~Aoki Ginga” opens with a light synthesized intro but is more heavy on the bass overall, with Kaito’s distinctive voice layered in places to give the song auditory texture.
“Plastic Inspire” is heavy, with a deathly voice and screeching guitar breakdown, yet has a chorus with anime-styling and swing that makes it a nice addition to the rest of the single, instead of a radical departure. “Curtain Call” is rhythmic and earnest, a slightly jazzy love letter to the fans with a bouncy chorus that sticks in the head. The b-sides are quite different in tone, but complement each other and the A-sides well, no doubt in order to tempt fans into buying both.
The music video for the hyper-pop “Hyakaryoran” was filmed in part at a free show the band held, and viewers can get a taste of the energy Aube puts into live performance. While the frenetic scene cuts and sparkling white and leopard print costumes distract from the music, Yu-ichi’s guitar work is particularly nice and he steals the song in several places. Unfortunately “Hyakaryoran” isn’t offered as an audio track, so fans of the song will have to wait and see if it appears on an album.
This is only Aube’s second single, but the songs are polished and show that despite being a relatively new band, the members have a decade of visual kei experience behind them and are confident in their sound. If you’re a fan of visual-pop that has plenty of energy but isn’t too light or repetitive, give one (or all) of the versions of “Waga, Houmatsumugen no Hana ni Nari…” a listen.
