DaizyStripper’s Kiss You Melts The Heart

Review

Unbridled romance: These two words sum up DaizyStripper’s latest single, Kiss You, in a neat little package, silk ribbon and all. Released on June 15, the three tracks cover the turn of the season from spring to summer.

“Kiss You” is your typical, puppy love song, but the thing is, DaizyStripper do them so well. Despite its predictability, the song is uplifting and nicely arranged. The real highlight of the number is the vocal solo towards the end. Accompanied by strings and piano, Yu-Giri reaches up into his falsetto range for a golden moment. Then the sentiment continues with drums pitching in to add a bit of swing before a key change that brings the full complement home for a bright finish. The marked increase in English lyrics as compared to previous releases is also interesting: “Kiss you for my love, I’ll sing a song with you tonight.”

“Last note” provides a racing change of pace, at least in the beginning. The chorus turns poppy after breaking free from the interestingly sparse melody fitted over tricky drums. The result is nice to sing along to, but not quite what was expected.

If you’re not overly bothered by music videos and off-shots, we definitely recommend the normal version of the single featuring the third track, “Nana iro no hanataba wo.” Often played live but never before heard in a studio recording, the number is a gorgeous upbeat ballad about happy marriage and is even accompanied by the chiming of wedding bells via keyboard. Light-hearted arrangement and crisp, sweet vocals contribute to making this an extremely rare piece of music that draws holy matrimony in a joyous light.

For those who prefer the more hardcore side of DaizyStripper’s music, you won’t find what you’re looking for this time, but fear not, as the band is about to release an album on June 29. More details on that next time.
