D ended 2012 by bringing out the heavy guns for their Namonaki Mori no Yumegatari tour final on December 29. The show got the crowd of Shibuya AX dancing to electrifying instrumentals and powerful vocals, the band showing their (not so) dark side and plenty of skin through hilarious emcees…

“No one knows how this journey will end. Will we survive?” Heavy drums pulsed like a heartbeat in the background. “We’re about to set sail.” Suddenly, a troop of a dozen drummers, their skin ominously decorated with white and green symbols, emerged from the wings playing a pulsing militant rhythm. A similarly painted dancer emerged, gracefully wielding a sword as he leaped and twirled among the drummers. These were the guardians of Atlantis, preparing for the pirates’ arrival.

LUNA SEA held their tour final at Nihon Budoukan—a mecca for accomplished artists—on January 20, 2012. The charismatic members frenzied their “slaves” at the climax of the consecutive days of performance, the venue unsurprisingly packed despite the frigid weather. The audience, unsure when their next chance to enjoy the band would com, was a vision lacking restraint.

Shinjuku Blaze welcomed a very unique crowd on March 20 to celebrate Moi dix Mois’ tenth anniversary. Black clad elegant lolitas in their best gothic attires waited patiently for the start of the show that would bring together past and present as former Moi dix Mois members Juka (vocals), Kazuno (bass) and Tohru (drums) joined Mana (guitar), K (guitar), Seth (vocals), Hayato (drums) and Sugiya (bass) for a once in a life time show.

Those attending Gakido’s 4th anniversary show were treated to a little taste of things to come as they were greeted by cuddly, larger-than-life bears and rabbits handing out glow sticks. A video above the stage introduced the band members with an electro-beat that had the crowd clapping along with their glowing neon bracelets. Drummer Tossy threw the horns to the crowd as he walked onstage shouting, “Let’s go!” before launching into an opening drum solo while bassist Rito hopped up onto the podium

A palpable sense of anticipation buzzed around Shinjuku BLAZE on February 23 as fans waited for the final show of DEATHGAZE’s winter tour. If the opening songs seemed a little restrained for Ai being tethered to his guitar and mic stand, he soon righted the situation by throwing down his guitar, kicking the mic stand across the stage and roaring, “Welcome!”
